Mary's Parents, Peggy & Mickey Phelan (RIP)

Mickey and Peggy (nee Gough) were both from County Waterford. Mickey worked at Ferresflex, a subsidiary of the local tannery, which made leatherboard for shoes. Peggy spent her teenage years as an emigrant in Cardiff, South Wales. They met at a house dance in her family home while she was home on vacation. Mickey was one of the musicians, playing the button accordion. Their love of music and dancing was to endure for the 56 years of their marriage; only ending on Mickey's passing in his 94th year in 2009. Peggy passed away in 2014 in her 85th year.

Carrick-on-Suir (or Carrick as it's known locally) is a picturesque town on the River Suir in South Tipperary, 13 miles east of Clonmel and 17 miles northwest of Waterford City.
